So after I painted the dining room grey earlier this year.. I couldn’t help but miss the feeling of the previous dining room. I loved the white textured walls in our last dining room and how bright the room was. I loved the white walls and the wood furniture all mixed in together and decided I wanted to bring that into the new dining room as well.
Our dining room ceiling is pretty high so doing board and batten … just didn’t feel right. So I went with what everyone else is doing and did shiplap instead… and I don’t regret it one bit.
We still have quite a ways to go in this room before it is done. But I am a whole lot happier and can enjoy this stage quite a bit on its own.
We are going to add in a floating shelf with a some photos. I am leaning toward black and white photos of not just the kids but family members… meaningful photos of parents, grandparents, siblings, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. Since this is the room that we will come together and eat as a family I think putting these photos in here.. makes sense.
I want to add a sliding barn door from the dining room to the kitchen. I don’t think I will use it much to be honest… because the other door will remain open but for me the look and feel of it in this room is what I am leaning towards. And then I am contemplating a riddling rack on the other wall… or maybe a giant rustic plate rack. I still have to figure that out. And of course paint that gold chain on the light fixture to tie in with the actual light fixture…
but honestly… this room has come such a far way over the past month and its so fun to look at the changes.
We also switched up the moulding around the door and windows in this room…
So here is what the room looked like when we first moved in… (I should mention… I stole this online off another home … but honestly… pretty much the same room)
And here we are today…
And keeping it real. I still have to clean up some paint off the floor. and being completely honest… I hadn’t mopped… so just overlook some of those details ;) I’ll clean the floors for the full after reveal. I promise.
