I wanna get organized, ORGANIZED
So I am going to be honest with you all. I stink at organizing our home. I am the Queen of throwing stuff in cabinets… closets… anywhere I can hide it. It’s uncommon for you to open our kitchen cabinets and find… toys.. Books… even random cardigans that I stuffed there in a hurry before people came over. It’s terrible. And it’s something I am determined to get better at this year room by room.
This post isn’t all exciting. And its pretty basic. But I figured… if anyone else was putting off a closet organizer… thinking it wouldn’t make too much of a difference… maybe this will change your mind? maybe not..
We are lucky that each of our kids have walk in closets in their rooms. They aren’t huge… but it’s still nice having all that room for their junk. However… like most builder grade closets… there was just… one single rack that went in an L shape. Which was not helpful at all.
I seriously considered building some custom wood organizers. I went back and forth on the idea. But then I decided against it … here’s why.
Although I would love the custom-built closet idea filled with wood shelves and all that fun stuff…. The wire rack seemed to be a better answer.
Maddux loves getting himself ready. So This wire shelving kit allows me to move this as he grows. I can add to it if we need more… and I can take down from it if it gets too cluttered with little effort. I can raise the clothing racks as he gets taller…. it just works a little better for now.
You guys … I have the sweetest little boy. He jumped up and down with excitement over his new closet (He is so excited anytime we do anything to his room) He loves his display shelves and loves that he can reach his clothes without a problem now. It was just so sweet how excited he was… and part of me believes he does it solely for my benefit ;)
We bought the kit that was $175 dollars at Lowes. Then we went back and bought a few individual pieces to customize it a little bit more… all in all this was worth every single penny. I am so mad at myself for not doing this sooner…. And now I need to on the ball and work on Hudson’s before I loose that motivation!
This was the kit we bought…
We plan on hanging that mirror on the wall across from his clothes so he can see himself. And he requested a dinosaur closet so I just ordered some cheap dino wall decals that I plan on letting him help me put up once they arrive.
I still need to paint the trim. and I plan on replacing all the doors in our home over the next year or so. It will be a slow process I plan on just grabbing one here and there. I will probably start with the first level of our home… then work on it room by room.
But for now… this closet is functioning and such an improvement from where we previously were.
Here is the before….. (soooo embarrassing) (stop judging)
And now here we are today….
Isn’t that dino hamper just the cutest? Homegoods find 12.99. :)
So this update is kind of no brainer. You buy the kit… follow the instructions… and that’s about it.
However, sometimes I think investing in stuff like this is the hardest. It’s not cosmetic… no one sees it… so in our home, these type of investments get put off. I can tell you though now that we have done it.. we are talking about adding missing storage/organization to all parts of our home that desperately need it. I need to remind myself… projects like this make day-to-day life so much easier.
Now off to finish painting up that trim!
