Last week I shared with you our plans for our laundry room which can be found here.
Over the past week we have been busy putting this little room here together. We bought unfinished cabinets from Home Depot, painted the cabinets Paladian Blue (BM), patched the walls, painted the walls white, Swiss Coffee (SW), hung the cabinets, Picked out and purchased tile for under cabinets, and tiled said area.
It has been a busy week.
Since there are so many tutorials out there that you can find on Pinterest I thought I would share with you some photos of the progress we have made and our thoughts on this process thus far.
Some of it was pretty simple as you all know. Most of you can patch up walls and paint. So there is not much to say about that. We bought these unfinished cabinets. We chose not to prime because I did not mind the wood grain coming through. We put on three coats of paint and it covered very well. We hung up our cabinets using cabinet screws straight into studs.
Now the fun part – Tiling.
What you don’t do… is not look online first. You definitely don’t just start slapping the stuff on the wall. Because that is what I did. You should have an idea about a good starting point and consider cuts you will have to make to finish. Otherwise… your husband will be super annoyed with you when he gets home and realizes you left him a whole bunch of teeny tiny areas to tile… oops.
Tiling is hard. super hard. But this is a skill we would like to be able to use in the future so I think the laundry room was a great practice idea. This way we are realizing what does not work before we try a higher traffic area of our home. Because honestly… it’s just a laundry room. Right? In my opinion this is a great little room for trial and error. :)
So…back to the old checklist
Buy cabinets for storage above washer and dryer Paint these cabinets a pale blue Paint walls white Buy tile for between cabinets and washer and dryer Put in tile (AHH we have never done this! Kind of nervous!)
- Grout tile
- Build a large cabinet to house our vacuums, mops, and all other cleaning supplies
- Barn door and get rid of swinging door
- Find a new option for that ugly wash bin (still looking)
- Add a small folding table with basket storage below.
- Install drying rack
- Purchase full-sized ironing board
- So our plans for Week 2 will be
- grout the tile
- Build cleaning cabinet storage
- Build folding station
We might end up buying a cabinet for the vacuum & mops and not build it. We are going to look around and see what we come up with over the next week. the folding station we plan on building but since we have learned from blocking that door we will build it to where it can be moved not connected to the wall. We don’t have a lot of space so we will have to get creative in here. Wish us luck!
